Coffee is the most important agricultural export for the native people of Papua New Guinea. The plants that bear these coffees are transplants from the famous Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee estates. Papua New Guinea shares many of the unique flavors of Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee. Look for a sweet acidic flavor with a mild, medium body and fruity undertones.

Earth's second largest island, Papua New Guinea lies just north of Australia and occupies the Eastern half of the island it shares with the Indonesian province of Irian Jaya. Coffee found its way to Papua New Guinea when Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee seedlings were brought in and planted in 1927. Because of climatological similarities between the two countries, the coffee thrived in its new home. This exotic coffee is grown at elevations between 4500-6000 feet above sea level. The bulk of the coffee is cultivated on extremely small farms, practically gardens, by thousands of coffee farmers who are organized into co-ops sharing processing facilities. These farmers use no artificial fertilizer and no chemical sprays - the coffees are "Certified Organic." Papua New Guinea coffee is well-balanced with a sweet and bright acidity, a heavy earthy body and a complex and wild fruity aroma.
